We got up at 5:30 but it felt like 4:30 because of the
time zone. We had a great breakfast at
the hotel and got to Tire Rack by 7:30.
The cars are numbered in sequence from 1 to 53 and the skid pad was run
according to the numbers. Our number is
40 so we were one of the last to run. We
ended up in 42 position getting .633 “G’s” of lateral force on the wet skid
pad.
It was David’s first run as a driver, and he thought he
could have done better, but he was happy to get over the ‘jitters’ and was
happy with our performance.
We had an uneventful trip on the 82 mile run to Grissom
Air Force Base for the autocross. All
cars got three runs. David’s first run
was 64.862 seconds, and his second run was 61.686. He was hoping to get under a minute on the
third run but he nicked one of the cones for a penalty so we had to settle for
the 61.686. We ended up in 50th
place for the autocross and are now in 48th place overall.
We’re not even close to being as competitive as we were
when Curt as our only driver, but we are having fun running with the ‘old guys”
at the back of the pack and letting the ‘whipper snappers grab all the glory
(at least for now).
We’re now in the middle of our 285 mile run to the National
Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY for a ‘passage control’ stop. We have to stop and get our log book stamped
at that point or we get penalized. (We’re
also supposed to ‘smile’ for media who are there…..). There should be a bunch of good food there
at least before we hit another 265 run to Memphis yet tonight/early AM.
Looking forward to a pic with the "driving suit" on!!!
