We left from David’s house a little after 7AM. Ellen and Tamie were there along with Curt and
his son, William. Will was still in his ‘jamies’
or we would have taken him along with us.
We made good time getting to Tire Rack in South Bend, which was a lot
better than previous years. We did a
pretty good job getting all the decals on the car and had a good time meeting a
lot of other teams from our previous two “One Laps”.
One big difference this year is that we’re competing in the “SSGT-2
Small Bore” which is much more
competitive than the SSGT1 division we we’ve been in before. David thinks that’s fine, but right now, no
one else is in SSGT2 so we would have been first in class if we’d stayed there……..
We attended the drivers meeting and even stayed around later
for the session that was just for ‘rookies’.
Maybe that’s because we think that we are! We got to the hotel before 5PM and enjoying
our last ‘normal’ night before we starting checking into hotels well after
midnight for the rest of the week.
Tomorrow we do the ‘wet’ skid pad event at Tire Rack (the
only event where we compete with the drivers window ‘up’) and then we’re off to
Grissom Air Force Base for an auto-cross, the National Corvette Museum in
Kentucky for passage control and end up in Memphis for two road course races and two drag races on Sunday.
Feeling pretty good so far………..
